The film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 9, 2026, and the recently released songs have already started drawing attention among Malayalam movie lovers.
Anoop Menon and Aiswarya Mithun Koroth Lead Chiram
Chiram stars Anoop Menon and Aiswarya Mithun Koroth in the lead roles. Aiswarya, who has previously appeared in films including Porattu Nadakam and Oru Jaathi Jaathakam, plays the female lead opposite Anoop Menon. Sreekanth Murali, Shelly Kishore, Geethi Sangeetha, Ambili and Thejaswini Bhakt are also part of the cast.
The movie is jointly directed by Sindhu Paradayil and N Sudheer, while Sindhu Paradayil has written the story. The screenplay is credited to Sindhu Paradayil and K. Rajagopal. Sathyajith Nair is producing the film under the banner of Sathyajith Productions.
What Is Chiram About?
The film follows Seetha, a Malayali woman who travels to Kolkata to conduct research on Baul music and its way of life at Visva-Bharati University.
Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she meets Sam, a freelance photographer and a friend of her professor. What begins as a meeting gradually develops into a relationship, with love, separation and the search for meaning becoming central to their story.
The 1990s setting gives Chiram a distinctly nostalgic flavour. Rather than presenting a conventional romance, the film appears to use its Kolkata setting, Baul culture and the characters' emotional journey to create a more atmospheric love story.
M Jayachandran’s Music Adds to the Nostalgia
Music looks set to be one of the major attractions of Chiram.
The recently released song “Chandare” features music composed by M. Jayachandran, with lyrics by B. K. Harinarayanan. Another video song, “Marathilu Neerottam,” has also been released, adding to the film's growing musical buzz ahead of its theatrical arrival.
The songs also give audiences a glimpse of the film's visual world, with portions shot around Kolkata locations including the Howrah Bridge, Hooghly River and Visva-Bharati University.
Chiram Release Date and Crew
Chiram is arriving in Kerala theatres on October 9, 2026. The film has a reported runtime of around two hours, with cinematography by Anand Balakrishnan and editing by C. V. Sajayan. Music is handled by M. Jayachandran and Girish Narayan, while Girish Narayan also provides the background score.
The movie was filmed across Kolkata, Rishikesh, Dhoni, Palakkad and Vagamon, giving the story a visual canvas that stretches well beyond a typical Kerala-set romance.
Why Malayalam Movie Fans Should Watch Out for Chiram
There is something refreshing about a Malayalam film choosing an old-school romance while placing it against the worlds of Kolkata and Baul music.
With Anoop Menon in the lead, a promising pairing with Aiswarya Mithun Koroth, M. Jayachandran's music and a story built around love and separation, Chiram could appeal strongly to viewers who enjoy emotional Malayalam dramas and nostalgic romances.
The big question now is whether the film can turn that promising setup into an emotionally satisfying theatrical experience.
Chiram releases in theatres on October 9, 2026.
